Then I remembered I had a spare pair for a previous 8x32. I tried these and they worked properly. I tried them out in the field and was disappointed comparing them to one of my 10x42's. With all the messing with them earlier I had moved the dioptre setting (I have it neutral as I have very good eyesight). This changed everything. Superb razor sharp bright image. Glad a refund wasn't available pronto.
