Featuring a stellar cast of musicians (including trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, tenor sax man Joe Lovano and drummer Adam Nussbaum among others), John Abercrombie's new recording is one of the major events of the season, and, unquestionably, one of the guitarist's finest albums. As the title suggests, this is very "open" music; jazz provides the foreground, but there are also influences drawn from blues, country and folk music.
