I don't think you can use this on its own without a preamp. 1 thing this mic pickup lacks, is a kill switch. It would be great to have that when you get off stage or tuning the guitar but instead there is a to turn the volume knob off. To conclude, It works well, Will get another one hands down. No complaints. Thanks PS: don't forget to add a kill switch if there is a version 2.0
