Synopsis
The history, uniforms, and equipment of this elite arm of the IDF from its formation to the present day., From the creation of the first volunteer paratroop unit shortly after the birth of Israel and of the Israeli Defense Force, this arm of service has been recognized as elite. They have also been the first choice for daring special missions, and it is mainly from their ranks that Israel's Special Forces units have been recruited. Their ethos has also been widespread throughout the IDF; a unique aspect of the Israeli military is the cross-posting of officers from the airborne, armored, and other units, to ensure that all unit commanders share their aggressive qualities and their understanding of arms capabilities. In this way the influence of the paratroop arm has been out of proportion to its size. This fully illustrated study is a complete history of Israeli paratroopers from its creation to the present day, including relevant developments in their role and organization, as well as their achievements and setbacks in conflicts such as the Six Days War and Yom Kippur War., The history of military forces, artefacts, personalities and techniques of warfare While paratroopers have been included in the Israel Defense Forces since the birth of the nation, it was in 1954 that the merging of a commando company into the first paratroop battalion marked the foundation of a unit with a new ethos of aggressiveness, discipline, and high standards of leadership and tactical skills. From that first unit, Para Battalion 890, renowned for its combat drop at Mitla Pass in the 1956 Suez War, the paratroopers have grown into a corps of one regular and four reserve brigades. Whether mechanized in half-tracks or inserted by helicopters, the Tzanhanim have spearheaded all the IDF's many campaigns. They have also provided many officers and men for its elite special forces units, and, through the IDF's unique policy of cross-posting between commands, they have had a major influence on the doctrine of the whole army. This book, recording their triumphs and explaining their occasional failures, is illustrated with photographs, organizational charts, and eight new colour plates of uniforms, insignia, equipment and weapons. Full colour artwork, Unrivalled detail, Photographs, Charts. Book jacket.

Great seller. Super fast shipping - 2 days from their location to Calgary. Items are in even better condition than described. Seller included a free vintage magazine - thank you. Excellent to do business with and I will be returning. Packaging was solid - items were better than described (e.g. Paths of Glory was noted as slightly damaged but looked new with an open box.). Seller is exceedingly honest in description. Best grognard seller I've dealt with and I'll be back.
