Black adidas SL Loop Runner Athletic Sneakers

adidas first entered the men's running shoes market in 1972 in preparation for the summer Olympic Games in Munich. The debut model was super light, so the company dubbed them the SL 72.

adidas re-released the original model in the 1980s as the company transitioned from racing shoes to runner fashion sneakers. This initial success was short-lived, and adidas pulled the model from production.

What are the features of

adidas SL Loop Runner Sneakers?

In 2012, the company released the original shoe again with a vibrant royal red colorway. Then in 2014, the company took the aspects of the original SL 72's aesthetics and created retro-inspired shoes with the new SL Loop Runner. This new model boasted several improvements over the previous models, including:

  • A T-toe cap
  • Concave midsole
  • Razor-edge three stripes for the eyestays
  • Four different colorway options

In March 2015, the model got another revamp, bringing it to the SL Loop Racer model. In this model, adidas removed the toecap and replaced the serrated eyestays with new loop-lace construction.

Following the SL Loop Racer model, adidas launched several other models, including the Loop Racer. This latest model is nearly identical to the 2015 model, but adidas dropped the SL Loop lettering on the shoe itself. Regardless of which model you choose, these jogging shoes have made an impact on both the performance runner fashion sneakers markets.

How well do the

adidas SL Loop racing shoes fit?

When looking at retro-inspired shoes, a primary concern is how well they are going to fit, especially when the original pair was from nearly 50 years ago. The loop racer shoes generally fit true to size for length. Modern pairs are available in men's sizes 4-14.

However, like many men's running shoes, they tend to run a bit narrow. The modern models are made of breathable neoprene mesh, so it should fit tightly like a sock but will have some give.

What makes the SL Loop stand out?

From the launch of the SL 72 series show, these men's running shoes have stood out. In the beginning, these were lightweight and gave incredible traction while running. These shoes also had a textured tongue to help keep the tongue in place while you run.

Even with the initial series, the nylon mesh and suede upper were designed for casual wear. The midsole is made of a sculpted EVA, giving you plenty of support while also giving cushioning during both everyday wear and training.

The signature loop lacing system provides a better fit for the laces without cutting into the top of your foot. The design utilizes these loops to create the common three stripes on the side seen with most adidas shoes.

Does the SL Loop Runner come in different styles?

adidas has offered the SL loop Runner in various colorways over the years. For instance, the 2012 reboot was offered in a vibrant royal red.

In addition to some of these bold colorways, in 2015, adidas also used the SL Loop Runner to debut its Chromatech technology. This technology was used as a base colorway, but then the technology flexes and shifts the color changes.

The technology was geared to give each pair a unique look because it is based on how the individual wears the shoe. The way it's worn makes the adidas SL Loop shoes similar to a pair of jeans as they get worn in; no two wear exactly the same. This model also brought back the T-toe cap, concave midsole, and rubber outsole.
