Shocks & Struts for Acura TL

Acura TL Shocks Strut

Your shocks and struts control your vehicle suspension and overall handling and ride stability when youre behind the wheel. Without the shock absorber component, your vehicle will likely bounce and the tires will have little friction to move and brake safely. Shocks and struts affect the handling of springs and suspension, which in turn affects your vehicles safe breaking response.

How do shocks and struts work?

Shocks push hydraulic oil through the pistons, which causes resistance. This causes the valves inside to move up and down. Since only a certain amount of fluid can go through the struts one time, it causes a natural resistance to the move and flow of the vehicle and tire.

What are the types of shock absorbers?
  • Conventional telescopic shock absorbers: This is the simplest type of shock absorber, and it is also very inexpensive. These are found in front and rear suspensions.
  • Strut-type shock absorbers: Struts replace parts of the suspension system. These are best for heavier payloads like trucks. These shock absorbers are designed to be fully replaced. For these shock absorbers, the suspension must be sturdy.
  • Spring seat shocks: These shock absorbers have qualities that are similar to the others. The springs arent built for heavy truckloads. The shocks and struts do have a damping device in each unit.
How do you know when struts and shocks are bad?

When the shocks and the struts in your Acura TL vehicle begin to fail, there will be several signs.

  • Like any shock absorber, the strut begins to sag and lose its natural tension; this is a good sign that its going bad. Drooping in the vehicle will definitely show in areas where the strut is weak.
  • A rattling sound in the suspension can be heard when your tire goes over bumps and patches. This happens when the strut assembly becomes loose and begins to move and shake around, especially when you brake.
  • Hydraulic fluid in the strut will begin to leak. Over time, cracks will appear in the body, which enables it to leak out.
  • Bad struts can no longer handle certain conditions. The vehicle going over bumpy terrain can cause problems due to loss of spring tension and lack of control.
  • Once the strut has been depleted, the vehicle suspension and tire function can be severely affected. The strut will eventually break due to the lack of control and structural support.
