Rolex began the original GMT-Master line in 1954, allowing pilots and travelers to view multiple time zones. What set the GMT-Master collection apart from other Rolex watches for men was the dedicated 24-hour time you could use to monitor Greenwich Mean Time.
The second iteration of this collection is GMT-Master II. Rolex created a brand-new movement that allowed the 24-hour hand to move independently from the standard hour and minute hands. It was a big change that let you see three different time zones, warranting an upgrade to the entire line. Thus, GMT-Master II took over.
The Ref 16713 is a 40-millimeter watch that Rolex produced between 1989 and around 2006. It's a unique addition to the line, offering a unique two-tone design that marries practicality and style.
A Combination of Metals
The most notable feature of the Ref 16713 watch is its use of stainless steel and yellow gold. Most of the GMT-Master II references are entirely stainless steel. However, Rolex produces several distinct models and variations that use 18-karat yellow gold forged in the brand's in-house foundry.
