Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLNR

The GMT-Master II Ref 126710BLNR: A Watch Decades in the Making

A Watch Decades in the Making

Back in 1954, Rolex rolled out the original GMT-Master watch. The Swiss watchmaker sought to create a timepiece that could traverse the world. The GMT-Master did just that, allowing pilots and travelers to monitor two time zones. By 1982, Rolex refined the design of the GMT-Master watch and created a brand-new movement that could display time in three zones. Thus, the Rolex GMT Master II line was born.

This collection continues today, offering Rolex watches for men in various designs. While the differences are subtle, the watchmaker continues to innovate and refine. That brings the line to Ref 126710BLNR, one of the latest references in this long-lasting collection.

Key Features of the Ref 126710BLNR Stainless Steel Watch

At first glance, this watch looks like many of its predecessors. However, it has many unique details. Rolex began producing this watch in 2018.

It's sporting a 40-millimeter case made entirely of Rolex stainless steel, called Oystersteel. If you compare this modern Rolex GMT Master II to older references, you'll notice it's slightly bigger. While it maintains the same 40-millimeter diameter, it has the Rolex Maxi case and dial.

The Maxi case has a more squared-off design with thicker lugs and crown guards. It also has a wider bezel. Rolex increased the size of the dial markers and hands to accompany the beefier profile. The result is better legibility.

Like other modern Rolex GMT Master II references, this one has the Triplock crown and Oyster case construction. Together, they make this Rolex stainless steel watch water-resistant to depths of 100 meters.

Originally, Ref 126710 was only available with the five-link Jubilee bracelet. However, more recent models are also available with the classic Oyster bracelet.

Dial and Bezel Design

The Maxi dial has a signature black background with luminous index markings. The luminous material is Chromalight. It glows a vibrant blue, making the dial more visible even in deepwater conditions. The Chromalight lumes also appear on the Mercedes-style hour hand, pointed minute hand, and the triangle of the 24-hour GMT hand. Rolex has experimented with different colors for the 24-hour hand, but Ref 126710BLNR has the standard red hand for visibility.

The bezel is bidirectional and includes a Cerachrom insert. The Cerachrom material is both scratch- and fade-resistant. The rotating bezel has a 24-hour scale, allowing you to set a third time zone with the GMT hand.

There are two colors available. As with the GMT-Master II watches of the past, you can get a two-toned red and blue bezel. Also known as the Pepsi bezel, the two-tone style helps you differentiate between daytime and nighttime hours. The second option is a black and blue bezel, also known as the Batman bezel.
