Finding the Right Wedding Photo Album

Preserving your cherished memory of your wedding day requires the right equipment. To keep your photos all together, you need either an album or a box dedicated to that set of photos. Companies like Pioneer offer dozens of different wedding albums and boxes to choose from.

Choosing a Quality Wedding Photo Album

When looking for a photo album, you should have an idea of what type of album you want.

  • Box: While sometimes couples do put their wedding photos in a handmade, cardboard box, the box that Pioneer offers is actually a three-ring scrapbook binder that has box-like sides. These will protect your albums better than a regular binder. Their leatherette wedding box includes a photo frame on the cover and has a ribbon closure. The scrapbook boxes are archival, and acid-free.
  • Binder: Like the box, these are traditionally three-ring, but they do not have the protective sides attached to the back cover. However, binders like these may also come with pockets on the inside of the front and back covers, where you may want to place other souvenirs like letters, cards, etc. They can also have tabbed dividers that allow you to better organize your photo space.
  • Album Book: Most photo albums come as a book that allow for refill pages and have screwpost bindings that allow the pages and book to lay flat without damaging your photos.

How Can I Keep My Wedding Photos Safe?

While looking for your wedding album, there are some things you need to keep in mind so that your photos don't degrade, bend, or discolor.

  • Acid: Acid contributes to the yellowing found in old books and photos. You should always make sure that both the photo paper and the photo album are acid-free.
  • Page Waving: A photo album's pages should be straight, without any warping or bending, whether it is closed, opened flat, or opened and propped upright. That can be a sign that the photo album materials are not durable.
  • End Sheets: Photo albums have end sheets, which are pages that protect your photos from the cover.
  • Pinking: A phenomenon called pinking is when discoloration extends from the seam of the book, and can ruin both the pages and the photos. It happens when the book is mounted poorly and uses low quality paper.
  • Clear Plastic Pockets: To ensure that your pages will not yellow, choose binders and albums that have pockets. The pockets allow you to switch photos in and out if you want to display different wedding photos.
