Ford Ranger Pedals and Pads

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are 16,000 preventable crashes annually due to pedal error. These can happen when the drivers foot slips between pedals. Therefore, it’s important to keep the brake pedals and pads in good condition on your Ford Ranger.

Ford recommends that brakes on your Ranger be inspected every 10,000 to 15,000 miles. Check your Rangers brakes immediately if youre experiencing any of the following signs:

• The pedal on your Ford Ranger feels squishy, or the pedal goes all the way to the floor when pressed.
• The brake warning light on your Ford Ranger illuminates.
• You feel vibrations while steering.
• You hear grinding or squealing from your truck.
• You smell burning.
• You see visible signs of wear and tear on the brakes.

With the right tools, its simple to replace the pedal covers in your Ranger.

1. With the emergency brake engaged, remove the drivers side floor mat.
2. Use your fingers or a screwdriver to remove the current covers.
3. Remove the accelerator cable and retainer, and remove the nuts that connect it to the floor of the truck. Remove the gas pedal and bar.
4. Clean all surfaces with degreaser and a clean rag.
5. Install the new accelerator pedal by placing the pin through the mounting hole and attaching it to the assembly. Replace the unit following the reverse steps you used to remove it.
6. Boil four cups of water, and submerge the new brake and clutch pedal covers for two or three minutes. Remove with tongs and allow them to dry and cool for one or two minutes so you can handle them without getting burned.
7. Stretch the rubber part of the cover over the top of the brake pedal and work toward the bottom of the pedal. Repeat the process for the clutch pedal and cover.
