Nike Zoom Freak 2 White Cement 2020: a Sneaker With a Story

The Nike Zoom Freak 2 is a tribute to the journey of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Greece-born NBA MVP nicknamed The Greek Freak. This sneaker, though made specifically for Giannis, was designed keeping in mind every type of player.

Its design builds upon the Nike Zoom Freak 1, moving the Zoom Air from the heel to the forefoot for better responsiveness during the game. The Zoom unit uses pressurized air and tightly woven fibers to absorb the shock from those jumps and sprints and then bounce right back.

The sneaker's colorway draws inspiration from the concrete streets of Sepolia, Giannis's childhood neighborhood in Athens, Greece. This homage is evident in the speckled foam midsole in Grey Fog, designed to replicate the appearance of concrete, a reflection of the many paths Giannis traveled on his journey to NBA stardom.

The shoe's aesthetics also stand out, boasting a white mesh upper with white laces, complemented by contrasting black Swoosh branding with a shiny finish on the exterior side panel. The instep features a small red Swoosh and perforations for breathability.

An added touch is the University Red pop on the heel, showcasing Giannis's personal logo. The black Swoosh also features a subtle red stitching detail.

Launched on October 1, 2020, the Zoom Freak 2 showcases innovative technology. The shoe integrates a molded TPU piece on the lateral sidewall, enhancing containment and stabilization of the foot during quick movements on the court.

Its decoupled outsole is strategically separated into two distinct areas with a rigid, supportive piece in between. This design approach reduces the shoe's overall weight and significantly improves flexibility, helping players move with ease and precision.
