Hotpoint Refrigerator and Freezer Shelves

Refrigerator and freezer shelves provide a stable surface on which to store food. Hotpoint shelves are replacement parts from the original equipment manufacturer. The brand also makes baskets and other accessories that fit a variety of models.

• Wire: A wire shelf for a Hotpoint refrigerator is made of metal with a plastic or resin coating. The coating helps to prevent rusting and corrosion in case something acidic or sticky spills onto it. Shelves made out of wire tend to be smaller than those made out of other materials.
• Plastic and glass: An acrylic or glass shelf for the refrigerator often spans the entire length and width of the interior compartment. It can hold heavy items, such as gallons of milk or boxes of wine, without bending.
• Refrigerator door shelf: A refrigerator door shelf is designed to hold small items, such as bottles of sauce or cans of soda. It has a vertical and horizontal component in order to keep the items from falling onto the floor when the door is opened.

A refrigerator or freezer shelf can accumulate splatters, drips, and sticky residue from food or beverage containers that leak, splash, or fall over while they are stored. Cleaning your shelves regularly can help prevent bacterial growth and to stop containers from sticking. To clean the shelving units, begin by removing all of the food and beverages and wipe down each container. Remove each shelf and its attachment parts from the appliance. Immerse each of the shelf parts into a sink of hot water. If these shelves are too big to fit into the sink, they can be washed in the bathtub. Use a mild dishwashing detergent and a sponge with a textured scrubbing side to loosen stuck-on debris. Rinse the shelves in cold water and dry them with a clean microfiber or cotton dishcloth.
