Listen to Music or Other Audio with Apple EarPods

Each new iPhone device comes with a pair of Apple EarPods. However, those with a broken pair may be in need of replacements. eBay offers several options for those who like the look and feel of these classic white headphones.

What connector type should you buy?

There are two types of connectors used for EarPods ' a 3.5-mm jack and the Apple Lightning connector. The 3.5-mm jack is the general audio connection cable that can be used for devices other than iPhones or for iPhones earlier than the 7th generation. However, the 8th generation or later of iPhones does not have a 3.5-mm audio jack. Instead, the Lightning port is also used for the audio output, so Lightning EarPods should be purchased. However, if you still want to use the EarPods for other devices, you can buy a 3.5-mm to Lightning adapter. This will allow you to use your EarPods everywhere.

What is the in-line remote?

The in-line remote on the EarPods is a small set of control buttons on the headphone wire. There is a microphone on the remote that can be used for calls, as well as three buttons. These buttons only work with iPhones or other compatible devices. The top button increases the volume while the bottom button decreases the volume. The center button has a variety of different functions based on how you press it. The following shortcuts can take some practice to use effectively, but they can streamline your music-listening experience:

  • Play and pause your audio with a single press
  • Skip the track with a double press
  • Go back to the previous track with a triple press
  • Fast-forward by pressing twice then holding
  • Rewind by pressing three times then holding
What is the difference between EarPods and AirPods?

Apple has two different types of headphones, EarPods and AirPods. EarPods must be connected to the device with a cord while AirPods are the wireless alternative. AirPods connect directly to your device through Bluetooth. When used with an iPhone or another compatible device, they also have added features like pausing audio when they are removed or when the AirPod is tapped. Unlike their wired counterparts, however, AirPods must be charged. Your decision between these two types of audio listening devices should be based on how often you will use the device, how many devices you use, and your budget.
