Blower Motors for Chevrolet Express 2500

Chevrolet Express 2500 Blower Motors

When the blower motor fails in your Chevrolet Express 2500, it can be a problem when you need your climate control system to heat or cool the vehicle. This is especially true if you live in a climate with extreme cold or hot temperatures outside. You can find the right blower motor for your Express 2500 and learn more about them here.

What do the blower motors do?

The blower motor forces air through the Chevy Express’s air vents. When the heat is turned on, the air passes over the heater coil and carries the heat into the cabin. When the A/C is on, the air carries cool air from the A/C unit to the cabin. Without a functioning blower motor, there’s no way for the heater or the A/C unit to change the temperature in the cabin.

What are signs that a blower motor needs replacing?

The blower motor is an electric motor, so there are many causes for it not to run when it’s still in good condition. To isolate the blower motor and test whether its good or not, follow this simple electrical test:

  1. Locate the blower motor mounted on the backside of the engine compartment and disconnect the wiring harness from it.
  2. Using two jumper wires, attach one to the battery’s positive terminal and another to ground.
  3. Touch the two wires to the blower motors power and ground pin.

If the motor spins, then it’s still in good condition. If it doesn’t, it needs to be replaced.

If the blower motor runs but only on certain fan speeds, this usually indicates other electrical problems. If the blower motor makes loud squealing or grinding noises, then there is a mechanical problem with the motor, and it needs to be replaced soon.

Will the A/C and heat work without a blower motor?

The A/C unit and the heater will continue to work without the blower motor, but they won’t be able to change the temperature in the van’s cabin without the forced air flow the motor creates.

How do you replace the blower motor?

On the Chevy Express 2500, the blower motor is mounted on the back wall of the engine compartment. You can easily replace the motor by following these steps:

  1. Remove the plastic reservoir tank that sits in front of the blower motor. Its fastened in place with a single bolt in front.
  2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the blower motor.
  3. Remove the four bolts holding the blower motor in place and pull it out.
  4. Install a new blower motor by reversing the previous steps.
