Nissan Maxima AC Hose Fittings

A full-size sedan that made its debut in 1980 as a replacement for the Datsun 810, the Nissan Maxima offers comfort and luxury. In order to maintain that level of interior comfort, seamless climate control is essential. Make sure that you and your passengers always keep your cool with premium replacement A/C parts and hose fittings that are made for your Nissan.

All Nissan AC systems have a high-pressure hose and a low-pressure hose. Each has one service relief nozzle toward the center, with connection fittings on the nozzles and at each end. The fittings include caps, gaskets, valve (nozzle) cores, and O-rings.

Low or no cooling is usually a sign that there is a leak in one of the hoses, either in the form of a puncture along the length, a faulty gasket, or a leak at one of the fittings. The way to check for this is to perform a visual inspection to check the lines for damage. If none is apparent, you should check the pressure in the lines using a pressure gauge. The low-pressure line is within normal range at around 40 psi, and the high can read between 170 and 250 psi; anything far outside of those norms indicates a problem. Refrigerant does not just dissipate on its own. If the readings of both gauges are lower then normal, it most likely means youre out of refrigerant because theres a leak.

Caps or bolt fittings can be loosened and replaced with similar parts of the same size, threading, and interior diameter. If the part thats leaking is at a valve cap, you usually just need to replace the seal or ring. The Nissan fitting replacement kit should contain rings of various sizes along with an appropriate adhesive. You can replace the A/C fittings using the following steps.

• Make sure the A/C system is closed.
• Remove the affected parts and clean out the remnants of the old gasket and any remaining adhesive.
• Clean the inside of the cap.
• Apply a thin layer of adhesive inside the cap and on the underside of the new seal.
• Place the new seal in its setting, making sure its firmly and evenly seated, and allow it to dry before replacing the cap on the proper hose or other part.

The guidelines for servicing the engine, air conditioning, or any other component of your Nissan are listed in your vehicle owners manual. In general, you should take your Maxima sedan in once a year or every 30,000 miles, and sooner if youre experiencing problems or have been in an accident. Anytime you have hoses or other parts serviced or replaced on your vehicle, replacing the rings or seals should be automatic.
