What does the compressor clutch do?Your X-Type utilizes a mechanical system in your A/C that works similar to the clutch in a manual transmission. How does the compressor clutch work?Like a transmission clutch, it works as a catch to prevent the compressor in your X-Type from shifting states inadvertently. While on, the compressor works the pulley and bearing to create pressure on the refrigerant, which is circulated through the evaporator coil to chill the ventilation and expel it into the cabin. When the air reaches a certain temperature, the clutch kicks in to shut off the compressor, saving fuel and reducing the wear and tear on the flywheel and other parts in your Jaguars system.
