This mother of pearl is translucent and easy to apply due to the adhesive backing . A thin sharp razor like cutter or even a rotary cutter works well without causing splitting.I used it to repair a vintage photo frame that had a faux mother of pearl inlay. I would recommend using a white background or a highly reflective surface or over laying it over damaged mother of pearl as the surface is translucent and of course iridescent, as is the characteristic of mother of pearl.
